Walk the Walk:
Many homeowners feel that the walkway in any front yard is the centerpiece to the landscape design. While there are many aspects to creating an effective and eye-catching walkway, there are a few things to consider: designs and shapes, widths, and materials. Making a good decision in these areas are helpful to overall design and look of your outdoor area. These tips and trends are helpful for planning and executing a relevant and beautiful walkway.

Straight or Curvy:
The two major shapes for designs are straight and curvilinear. Deciding which one to choose is fairly evident depending on the location and relationships (of the places) that are connected to the walkway. Curves create a more naturalistic feeling, and you can even have more than one curve in a walkway. In contrast, straight walkways are more direct (although you can create interest by changing the widths). Also during the design and shape phase, you can also consider adding steps into the walkway (which can also include an additional material). Both of these shapes are highly popular walk way trends, depending on your need and area available.

How Wide?:
Widths are another section of creating an effective walk way that are important. The width could be narrow or wide, depending on how important the walk way is in the overall design. Most main access ways are at least four feet wide. You can have a much wider walk way if there is room. Also, less prominent walk ways, like garden walk ways should have a smaller width around 3 feet wide, while minor paths can be only 2 feet wide.
