A sunroom brightens your home and gives you a closer look at nature and the elements without exposing you to their downside. It can double as a party room or family room, can increase the value of your house.
 
There are many ways to let the sun shine in, from a solarium, cathedral type sunroom to a gazebo-shaped conservatory. The most common type of sunroom, however, is a studio sunroom. It can be attached to the front, side or back of most homes.

A studio sunroom is similar to an all-glass (or mostly glass) enclosed porch with skylights to let the sun shine in. Sunroom windows and skylights can also be made of plastic. On the plus side, plastic is cheaper, but it scratches easily and doesn’t trap heat energy as efficiently as glass.

The studio sunroom is perfect for single-story homes, but can be custom-made to fit any house. Before contacting a contractor , think about how you’ll use the space.
 
If you want to use your sunroom as a year-round office or family room, factor in the cost of heating if you live in a cold climate. You may want to install low-awning windows or vented skylights to keep the sunroom from overheating in the summer.

Builders use flat, straight eave roofs on most studio sunrooms, although they may angle the roof slightly to match the one on your house. The simplest studio sunrooms have solid aluminum roofs, with or without a skylight. A glass roof with interlocking aluminum or wood frames is a more stylish choice...
