Renovations Made Easy: Reupholstering for a Whole New Look

Want to know the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to get a whole new look in your home? Easy. Just reupholster your furniture. And while it may sound like a lot of work for furniture that you’ve had for years, you’ll find it’s well worth it in the end; and you’ll probably be amazed at the difference it makes in your home.

Couches, chairs, and other furniture pieces are expensive and we can’t always afford to replace them every time we want to change things inside the home. Here are some things to consider when you choose your new upholstery:

  • If your previous upholstery used a pattern (floral, striped or paisley) consider going with the opposite and select a solid color. If you are used to solids, then go with patterns this time around. This will create a more dramatic difference in your home.

  • Use the internet to find color palettes that work for your home. You can easily find colors that go well with each other on web. Just search “Color Palette Generator” on your favorite search engine.

  • Consider the type of lighting you have in your home and how it plays off of your furniture. Will a new type of lighting work better with the new upholstery? Consider more subtle lighting with darker upholstery and bright lighting with lighter colors. Use overhead lighting with patterns and floor lighting with solids.
