5 Tips for Planning Your Remodel

Remodeling is a popular topic right now. Many people have been bitten by the DIY bug and have chosen to start remodeling their homes on their own to make changes. Of course, some have also faced the mortgage crisis that prevents them from moving, which is another popular reason for renovating. If you need different spaces or more space to live in, but can’t afford to buy a new home, renovations are your best friend. It doesn’t matter why you remodel your home or even which rooms you choose to renovate because there are things that you need to plan before you get started, regardless.

It’s All in the Planning

1. Know what project you want to do.

Write it down. Be very specific. For example, say ‘replace hardwood floors in living room and dining room’ instead of just ‘flooring’. Get to the details because it matters.

For example, if your project is supposed to take three days and cost $2,500, make sure that you set aside $3,000 or even $3,500 so that you have the extra if you need it. Don’t spend the excess. Just plan to spend $2,500 and leave the rest there for later.

4. Talk to others who have done projects before.

If you have limited experience, you might not truly understand the full depth of what it will take for you to complete a project accordingly. Make sure that you know...
