3. Always have a budget cushion.

Renovations are known for going over budget and over schedule, so make sure that you give yourself a little cushion. For example, if your project is supposed to take three days and cost $2,500, make sure that you set aside $3,000 or even $3,500 so that you have the extra if you need it. Don’t spend the excess.
