Breakfast in the Driveway, Cool Remodeling Projects

Everybody loves eating out! We love those cozy coffee stops or breakfast cafés After all, eating out is in…even if “out” means outdoors, right outside your own home (which is much healthier for you and your wallet).

Transforming your driveway into a custom breakfast area can be one wonderful and multifunctional way to remodel and add extra value to your home too. Here are some ideas on how to plan such a project:

The first thing to think is about privacy and how to enclose your new cafe. If your driveway is right next to the house, then you’re possibly in luck! You might be able to use the outside wall of the house as the inside wall of the café. A closure for the back and outside wall of the café area gives you the cozy space you need.

A simple but charming wooden gate could be used for the back wall and plants with wooden posts can be used for the outside wall. If you want to get fancy, you can enclose the outside wall with plastic or even glass. To get even fancier,  brick wall can be added along the back to complement the wood.

Roof & Floor

The roof can be built with wooden beams for simplicity and charm. Use ceiling fans to offer a breeze on hot days…and cover with tarp or thick plastic to protect from the rain. Before buying any wood, look for the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification…and think about hiring a contractor for the tough parts.
