Make Money with Your Home: Remodeling for Income

Maybe you’re one of the many homeowners thinking seriously about adding an addition to your home for rental purposes. A little extra income never hurts—especially in this economy. But there are many alternatives to the basic idea of renting out part of your home. 
 
 
You can use your home as part of a money making business.  Use your pool to teach swimming lessons. Turn your garage into an art studio and give arts and crafts instructions. Enlarge and improve your kitchen and do some catering or give instructions in your favorite cooking styles. A few dollars invested in an updated and enlarged kitchen could pay off in a successful catering business. Your remodeling team can link-up with the Food Administration to insure your new kitchen meets all the standards allowable for catering.  Larger ovens and bigger grills plus larger freezers and refrigerators will all be more productive and more convenient. And consider a long work counter or island for preparation. 

 
Try to access your talents and do something you love to do. Perhaps you can add a new music room in your home and teach your instrument to the neighborhood kids. Things to think about for a project like this include separate access directly into the music room and acoustic preparations (sound proofing). Another possibility is to turn a spare bedroom into a play room with yard access for a child care center (and be sure to include an outside entrance and small-fry bathroom facilities). Maybe you can turn a garage or spare den into a yoga studio or gym for personal training work.
